From Coney dogs, to Faygo Pop, and of course Atwater beer, 313 day is a day to celebrate all things Detroit. Working alongside the taphouse team, Atwater Brewery’s second annual 313 Day was brought together in just a few short weeks. Social media graphics, event signage, and corresponding with local businesses helped bring together the special event!

	



	What is 313 Day?Detroit’s area code being (313) - March 13th is 313 Day - it’s Detroit’s day. By working with other local businesses, creating community stays a primary focus for Atwater to uplift and celebrate the city as a whole. Partners for this day included Bon Bon Bon, Faygo, Hacienda Mexican Foods, Hell Fire Detroit, McClure’s Pickles, Pietrzyk Pierogi, and Third Man Records.&#38;nbsp;

Building excitment through social media was a vital part to advertise and get word out. Atwater partnered with Third Man Records for a collaboration post and additionally creating a preview of the giveaway that was to happen on the day featuring prizes from multiple local businesses.

A refresh was needed for Atwater Brewery’s iconic Vanilla Java Porter. For their variety pack, they wanted to distance themselves from the previous burlap pack design. Gaining inspiration from coffee and creamer - the varietals of VJP took shape.

	



	DevelopmentA beer that tastes like coffee? Must be delicious. Taking inspiration from vintage styles and coffee creamer, I blended the two to create an eye catching design that pops on shelves and appeals to a younger audience.&#38;nbsp;

	Community + Launch
In addition to the launch of the new beer, Atwater partnered with local donut shops including Dutch Girl Donuts, Yellow Light Donuts, Apple Fritter Donut Shop, and Donut Villa. Each shop created a donut to go along with a different varient of Vanilla Java Porter.

Atwater’s newest light beer was in need of a quick turnaround. The goal was to make this “Detroit’s Light Craft Beer” and by utilizing a map of Detroit city streets to leverage that idea, the design is supposed to really hammer home the pride of the city which Atwater was born. I also wanted to make a simple and clean design that would not only convey the lightness of the beer, but create something that looks nice in hand.

	



	DevelopmentDue to the rushed nature of this project, Atwater Light was created in a matter of hours. Within a day, the name was chosen and a design was brought to life.

	POS Design
Along with the design of the can and carrier, point of sale was very specific to Detroit and marketing it as a light craft beer meant call-outs to the carb, calorie and ABV were crucial. Whether at a baseball game or at the lake, Atwater Light is sure to refresh.

For the 2024 Fall/Winter season Atwater brewery needed some new merchandise that felt true to Detroit. With sweatshirts, flannels, rugby shirts, and more, the goal was to create unique pieces that didn’t make the wearer feel like they were a walking billboard. By taking small parts of the brand such as a sign on the building that says “Beer is Good” or the map on the bottom of packaging, I wanted to make those small things feel as if they fit in a new space making them intentionally bold graphics.

Zoo Atlanta and SweetWater Brewing Company teamed up to launch a bright pink beer exclusivley on draft at the zoo and in SWB taprooms. To support the launch of Pink Flamboyance, I designed a cohesive set of branded materials, including a tap sticker, a point of sale poster, and a social media graphic. The visual design blends vibrant tropical elements with a playful, modern aesthetic to reflect the beer's bold and refreshing personality.

	



	GoalThe goal was to attract customers at the zoo with an eyecatching, bright, bold design that was as flamboyant as the flamingos at the zoo!&#38;nbsp;

	Design DirectionsThe next step was something new, learning to make distinct design directions that fit the video's theme but are also different enough to distinguish. I chose “Paper Dolls” as one theme and “Geometric Patterns” as the second. Both correlate to the decade, but each has a different movement that would happen. In the end, it was “Paper Dolls” that was the chosen direction.

Creating an animatic was the next step in the process, creating a frame-by-frame video that would show potential movement with photographs.

A child's bedroom is one of the first places they are left alone, but it should always be where they feel safe. A bedroom should always be a place of comfort and a place to come to where you never feel scared. As I took inspiration from the 1960s acidic colors and designers like Alexander Girard and House Industries, I created bold patterns that take type and create a fun and playful set of items that not only bring joy and comfort but provide a different view to decorating a child's bedroom. If a child fears the dark, a night light gives them the security that no monsters are under the bed. A soft and comfortable pillowcase provides a safe place to rest their head but also serves the functional purpose of carrying items when going on an overnight sleepover. And finally, a friendly teddy to bring joy and support when they feel they need something to hug or tell them it will be okay. Through these three items, a sense of comfort, joy, and security combines playfulness and fun design that stands out from the crowd of current-day childhood necessities.

	



	Research - Looking Into Inspirational IdeasThis project's primary audience was children (and maybe the child inside of all adults), so I wanted to ensure I created something bright, colorful, and imaginative.

	Preliminary Prototypes + Pattern Designs
Throughout the process, I created many prototypes, using the laser cutter, sublimation printing my fabrics, sewing, hand stitching each bear, and even learning how to melt and bend acrylic.

	Final Outcome
This project was a very exciting one! Not only was I able to be playful, but I could also make usable items that functioned and jumped from the screen to the physical space!

	Research
Preliminary exploration of German symbols, food and people led to physical collaging. Going BIG to small… then back to GIANT, the dancing man developed to be 2 complimenting posters which could also be standalone. Through the process, it was really all about discovering how to incorporate the traditions of German culture that also had a playful feel.&#38;nbsp;

The objective began with a set of posters that could then be digitized into a fun set of digital media that would be suitable for gaining younger audiences in places like instagram or tik-tok.&#38;nbsp;
